The school year is over once again. I had my last final yesterday.

I feel awful guilty for abandoning my blog and blogger friends for the past year. I have had an amazing year. School has been so much fun, my grades have been great, I got into Phi Theta Kappa national honors society, I got into the honors college at my school, I was the president of film club, I have been nominated for the Slater Award for the best honors research paper on campus, I was co-editor of the art magazine, I had a short story in the art magazine, I am making a website to publish honors projects for my college this summer as an honors independent study, and I fell in love. Unfortunately, the man I fell in love with broke up with me this week. Yes, it was during finals. He was my first serious boyfriend, and I'm having a very hard time dealing with this breakup. I still only have sweet things to say about him.

For the first time, I was forced to read classics. I typically only read new YA books as they come out, but I took American Literature this semester. It was fantastic! I now love classics as well as modern books. I read The Great Gatsby for the first time just in time for the release of the movie.

Tomorrow I intend on attending the Gaithersburg Book Festival. Maggie Stiefvater, Adele Griffin, and Jessica Spotswood will all be there! I haven't been to a book event since BEA.

Speaking of BEA, I am really upset that I will not be making it to that incredible week in New York City this year. I receive the emails from BEA. They are taunting me. I would be able to go, but I do not think that it's fair. I haven't been blogging AT ALL this year. BEA was probably the best experience of my life thus far, but I would feel like I was cheating if I attended. I would be cheating. I haven't been a blogger this year. Someday I'll go again. I might stick to blogging and go next year, or I might attend it for business next time. I know that blogging is business for a lot of people, but it was just fun for me. The most satisfying fun. I will attend it again and many more book events. After all, I do intend on going into the publication of books.

I have decided on a four-year college that I wish to attend once I get my associates degree at my community college. St. Mary's College of Maryland. It is an all honors college on the coast of Maryland. The more I look into St. Mary's, the more I want to go there. The more I look into any other college, the less I want to attend them.

I'm not sure what to do with myself now that school is over and summer is here. I was excited to spend the summer with my boyfriend, but now I don't know what to do. I applied for a job at Barnes and Noble. I want a job with books, but I also applied for receptionist jobs. I DO NOT want to work in retail or at a restaurant. I feel very lost right now. It hasn't even been a week. I'm not sure how to get over him. I'm trying to figure out how to be okay again.

I'm hoping this post will kick me back into shape! I want to be an enthusiastic blogger! I want to post frequently! You can yell at me if I don't post anything within the next couple days.

Synopsis from Goodreads

ONE OF THE BOYS

What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university.

But everything she's ever worked for is threatened when Ty Green moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he's also amazingly hot. And for the first time, Jordan's feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart's on the line?

My Thoughts

I know hardly anything about football, but Catching Jordan sucked me into the game without boring me with mere details of football tactics like I was frightened it would while reading the beginning. Honestly, it made me want to watch the high school games in my neighborhood. I'm actually disappointed that it's not yet football season. That's a very strange thing for me to say. I love finding a book that will pull you into something you don't normally care about so fully that you wish to continue learning about it once the book is finished. That's what this book did.

Jordan is so uniquely proud and strong. Her love for the sport comes through in every page as she fights to keep her reputation and to be recognized by her star football playing father. She's so engrossed in her battle that she hardly allows herself a crush in fear that people won't take her seriously. Jordan struggles to find a place for boyfriends and crushes in her life devoted to her sport.

The loyalty on Jordan's team warms my heart. The guys trust her, defend her, support her. Their tight knit team is exactly the way every team should be. I felt as though I was surrounded by this amazing team of powerful individuals. By the end of the book, you could predict their responses and actions because their personalities had so clearly shown out throughout the book that you really got to know them.

I felt quite invested in the romances that played out, but the love for the sport and closeness between the teammates is what made me love this book. It's an absolutely fantastic read that I'd suggest to anyone. Even if you don't know football, you'll still love this book.AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-1024339365912571742012-06-01T17:15:00.000-07:002012-06-01T17:43:55.280-07:00Almost time for BEA!

Heh, I'm so completely excited for BookExpo America! It's almost here! I'm leaving for NYC to stay with my cousin and her husband tomorrow afternoon. I'll be there from Saturday to Saturday. I'm intending on visiting The Strand, attending Teen Author Carnival, Blogger Conference, the Children and Young Adult Author Breakfast on Wednesday, and all the rest of BEA amazingness.

I'm beginning to feel pretty prepared for my first time at BEA. I got new shoes that are very comfortable, I got a new small bag for just the essentials, and I made business cards. However, I'm still on the fence about whether or not I should take an empty suitcase with me to hold my books in while I'm running around BEA. What do you think? Empty suitcase or not? It would be such a hassle to throw everything out of my bag for the day, and it would be possibly even more of a hassle to take an entire nother suitcase. What to do!

I'm going all by myself, and I'm hoping to make tons and tons of friends while there. Let me know if you're attending. I'd love to meet you! Comment on here, email me, or twitter me. I have chin length brown hair, and I'm 5'5. Here's some pictures of me, so come say hi if you see me around!
I'm back!
I had a full load this semester and there's a very good chance I got all As. I'm waiting for my grade to be submitted for my last class. Creative Writing. Ahh, it was definitely my favorite class this semester. I had so much fun writing and critiquing with a fantastic group of students. I also had Psychology, Social Problems, and Health Education.

Now that school is over, my mind is completely devoted to BEA! I didn't have time to join everyone tweeting and blogging about it for weeks like I'm sure most people have been. I'm leaving in a week already! I scheduled my bus up there. I'm staying with my cousin and her husband for the week. I'm looking up everything I need to take with me. I'm planning out my days there.
This is my first time attending, and I've been practically jumping up and down in my chair with giddiness for this exciting event. Do you have any suggestions for me? I feel so unprepared!

I also really want to check out Teen Author Carnival. I heard about it a year or two ago and really wanted to make it. I guess I'll probably be able to this year! Anyone else going?AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-60565451350853754502012-03-21T23:51:00.001-07:002012-03-21T23:51:11.508-07:00Review: MoonglassTitle: Moonglass
Synopsis from Goodreads

I read once that water is a symbol for emotions. And for a while now, I've thought maybe my mother drowned in both.
Anna's life is upended when her father accepts a job transfer the summer before her junior year. It's bad enough that she has to leave her friends and her life behind, but her dad is moving them to the beach where her parents first met and fell in love- a place awash in memories that Anna would just as soon leave under the surface.

While life on the beach is pretty great, with ocean views and one adorable lifeguard in particular, there are also family secrets that were buried along the shore years ago. And the ebb and flow of the ocean's tide means that nothing- not the sea glass that she collects on the sand and not the truths behind Anna's mother's death- stays buried forever.

My Thoughts

I was really excited to read Moonglass by Jessi Kirby after reading positive reviews of it. The book got me excited for my trips to the beach coming up this summer! It highlighted beautiful parts of the beach while still noting the dangers of it. But, I was able to easily forget the bothersome aspects of the beach (my fear of fish and annoyance with sand) and I was able to instead imagine the most glorious views from the descriptions of thing like the "water that sparkled gold as the sun mad it's way toward the horizon."

I initially connected with Anna through her unwillingness to ask the questions that run through her mind about her mother or the run down cottage. It's something I've found myself doing with my own mother. If I've been irritated with her, I'll avoid saying anything to her, even if it's a perfectly decent subject she would love to talk about. I do it because I'd rather not talk to her at the moment, and I'll choose to stay quiet.

While I was able to connect with Anna this way, I found myself losing my connection with her the farther I got in the book. Events, thoughts, inklings, and everything else became too perfectly interconnected. The ideas seemed to stretch too far and incorporate too much. The material became heavier in meanings and emotions, and now... I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it anymore.

The romance wasn't the main focus of Moonglass. Anna's coming to terms with her mother's death is the center topic. When the romance did pop up, it failed to bring forth a spark strong enough to catch my attention. I can imagine the appeal of the attractive lifeguard that's reluctant to fall for the girl at first, but I never became attached to Tyler. I was waiting to fall for him.
Moonglass is a quick read and the writing is pleasant. I enjoyed Anna's narrative and the wonderful scenery. But, the book fell flat for me in a few areas. I did like it, but perhaps I was expecting too much out of it.AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-3540081642456332992012-02-22T21:59:00.000-08:002012-02-22T21:59:16.175-08:00Review: Stealing HeavenTitle: Stealing Heaven
My name is Danielle. I'm eighteen. I've been stealing things for as long as I can remember.

Dani has been trained as a thief by the best--her mother. Together, they move from town to town, targeting wealthy homes and making a living by stealing antique silver. They never stay in one place long enough to make real connections, real friends--a real life

In the beach town of Heaven, though, everything changes. For the first time, Dani starts to feel at home. She's making friends and has even met a guy. But these people can never know the real Dani--because of who she is. When it turns out that her new friend lives in the house they've targeted for their next job and the cute guy is a cop, Dani must question where her loyalties lie: with the life she's always known--or the one she's always wanted.
My Thoughts

Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott is happy making book. Today I was completely overwhelmed by my school work. I felt so much anxiety that I looked at my books and couldn't open them. I turned to this book and read 5 pages, laughed, and felt 8 times better. It gave me the shot of contentedness that I needed.

Dani goes along with anything her mother tells her. It frustrated me. Her mother raised her to obey. I wanted Dani to have a mind of her own. When around Greg, she had no problems making her own decisions, but she would barely allow herself to enjoy him or anything else. She never went to school, made friends, or dated. Her life was devoted to to her mother. Her mother was devoted to stealing. She didn't want to steal, though. She wanted to own her own home, furniture. She had to make her own decisions. To realize she had a choice.

It's definitely a page-turner. Greg and Dani picked at each other and made me giggle. Burdens rest on Dani's shoulders, but the story is rich with humor and sweetness enough to leave me content with a smile on my face. Greg brought in the humor and sweetness. He was instantly attached to Dani and determined to to get to know her. He was charming in a young boyish way that did not remind me of a cop, but there was no way to forget that he was a cop. Dani was constantly noting his uniform and reminding herself to watch what she says around him. He was still able to easily captivate her and me.

Finding time to read Stealing Heaven brought some much needed joy to my day. If you haven't read it, I suggest you bring the same happiness into your day, too. I'm excited to pick up more books by Elizabeth Scott.AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-16785786342217042932012-02-10T01:00:00.000-08:002012-02-10T01:00:12.030-08:00Positive ThoughtsI enjoy college. I enjoy learning. I was homeschooled until I began college,
so I feel that I am more eager to learn than many off the burnt-out kids who
went through the public school system. Sure, there are people who are engrossed
in their classes. Sure, people are more interested in classes that are involved
in their major than they are in the other required classes. But, I do not want
to burn out.
I want to engage in discussions. I want to be one of the
students raising my hand and asking the professor questions during and after
class. I want to read all the material. I want to do well on my exams. I want
to be involved in co-curricular activities. I want to be a knowledge guzzler and learn. I want to be a
good student. But, I find myself surrounded by students that despise every piece of
worked assigned.
Do you know what comes up when you search "studying" in goodle images? A picture of a note that says "Studying is boring", and a bunch of photographs of frazzled looking people.
The students try to convince the professors not to put information we
covered on the tests. They try to get out of doing homework. They don't do the
reading. They complain and complain. It is wearing me out. I was sitting in my
room and dreading doing my homework. I was thinking about how much I am
dreading my Psychology exam. I don't want to do that. I want to stay motivated.
Those school kids and their negativity are wearing me out. I LOVE COLLEGE.
I am
telling myself to continue loving it. I am telling you that I will not let the
negative students wear me down. I am telling you that I will continue to love
college.
I will enjoy putting information in my brain. I will love looking up fascinating
articles. I won’t be overwhelmed, and instead I will love reading about the
brain in Psychology. I wanted to be in college for so long. I will look back on
this time fondly and wish I could relive it. I will appreciate college. I will continue to love college.AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-57713512508525572722012-01-30T22:12:00.000-08:002012-01-30T22:12:33.483-08:00Review: Born WickedTitle: Born Wicked

Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother's diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.
Maura is stubborn, and she drove me a little crazy the way refused to do anything other than her way. Tess is less in your face and very intelligent. She's the quiet smart one. Cate. Oh, being in Cate's head is a pleasure. She deals with new secrets flying at her left and right. Dealing with courting and keeping her sisters safe. Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18C. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

My Thoughts

I love The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. Love at first sight is all fine and dandy, but there is a line between obsession and a slow fall to love that starts at first sight. Hadley and Oliver's falling in love does not feel overwhelming and fast; it is just right. I have read books that have the characters become instantly obsessed with each other, and it makes me roll my eyes. This book is smooth. I was completely content while reading it.

There was more to the story than Hadley and Oliver falling in love. Hadley was dreading seeing her father in London. She was dreading his wedding. She had no desire to go to London. Oliver is heading toward is own troubles in London. They are teenagers dealing with problems and getting to know each other. Oliver is a funny guy, and his conversations with Hadley were very entertaining.

This is the type of story that I will always believe can come true. It is a story I would make up in my head while on a flight. I think everyone makes up little stories in their head, and they especially come up with them when traveling. Making up background stories for people are them, making up stories of people they might meet. I always fear writing one of mine down and not capturing the right voice or mood. But, it was done here. It was written down perfectly.AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-15784122778663363922012-01-20T04:00:00.000-08:002012-01-30T22:13:37.310-08:00Review: The Scorpio RacesTitle: The Scorpio Races
It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

My Thoughts

The Scorpio Races had me so captured I could not stop reading it even with Christmas festivities around me. It didn't event stop me from exclaiming my feelings about the book while reading it. I stayed up all night to finish it. Maggie Stiefvater wrote a book that made me to completely happy and set on edge. It is a masterpiece. She created a suspenseful story with characters that stole my heart.

Sean Kendrick. The more I read it more the powerful it became. He was hard and lovely. Kind and fierce. So at odd and different from everything else. His love for his capaill uisce was as magnificent as the creatures. His love for Puck was more curious and giggle worthy with it's suspense.

Puck was proud and full of fight. Kate Connolly. She wanted life to stay the same, but it was changing. She was trying her best to keep her brother, her house, her horse. She was willing to do everything she could and keep her pride too.

The deadly creatures in this book make for an intense story when paired with the proud people on Thisby. The pride and other motives compel these characters to enter the race that many will not live through. The sea horses are terrifying and fascinating. The Scorpio Races captured me from the start.AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-79870931021593685122011-12-29T00:30:00.000-08:002012-01-30T22:13:57.892-08:00Review: The One That I WantTitle: The One That I Want
Gemma can’t believe her luck when the star football player starts flirting with
her. Max is totally swoon-worthy, and even gets her quirky sense of humor. So
when he asks out her so-called best friend Addison, Gemma’s heartbroken.
Then Addison pressures Gemma to join the date with one of Max’s friends. But
the more time they all spend together, the harder Gemma falls for Max. She can’t
help thinking that Max likes her back—it’s just too bad he’s already dating
Addison. How can Gemma get the guy she wants without going after her best
friend’s boyfriend?

My Thoughts

The One That I Want is about teenagers dealing with popularity, friendships, dating. Well, about teenagers pretty much sums it up. Gemma is constantly being put down by her best friend, and she has to learn to stand up for what she really wants. Jennifer Echols is one of my four favorite authors, so I was ecstatic to get my hands on this ebook. It was definitely not my favorite of her books, but it was still an entertaining and cute read.

So, I watch a lot of Japanese live action drama shows, I know people from Japan, and I am very familiar with Japan; I just need to go there. Max being Japanese definitely made him more awesome in my eyes. Him and Gemma were cool people. Nice main characters to follow. They had problems and were growing. They are characters you would want to be friends with.

When reading this book, I was frustrated with Addison. She was annoying, she was using Gemma, and she was mean to her! I couldn't believe Gemma had stuck with her for so many years.

There was little conflict. Rather, there was conflict, but it was so obviously solvable or easy to see how completely right Gemma was and how wrong the other person was. It was still a cute and enjoyable story. I was actually pleased to see the way it ended, but it wasn't much of a nail-biter.AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-35643221285341485812011-12-08T00:30:00.000-08:002011-12-08T00:30:02.537-08:00Review: Tempest

Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

My Thoughts

This book is going to be famous. It is already being turned into a movie. Foreign rights have already been sold in 12 countries. This book is going to be everywhere, and it should be.

When I began reading it I was only partially intrigued, but this book was crazy, epic, awesome, spell-bindingly amazing. Seriously, I was unable to put it down until I finished it. The intensity of the time traveling was fantastic. There is mystery, action, romance all crammed into this one great book.

Jackson can't trust anyone in this book. Everyone is fighting for themselves. I felt bad for him because he was so alone. Holly didn't even know he could time travel. I kept wishing she did know so he could have someone other than Adam to talk to.

I was more interested in finding out about his dead twin Courtney than I was hearing about Holly. His story with Holly is good and dandy, but the mysteries with Courtney are even better. Everything concerning Jackson and Courtney was touching.

Julie Cross wrote a fantastic page-turner. You must get this book when it comes out! I'm also stoked for the movie. I'll be looking into it a lot.
AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-78126181700567407852011-12-06T00:30:00.000-08:002011-12-06T00:30:00.577-08:00Review: Hushed

Eighteen-year-old Archer couldn't protect his best friend, Vivian, from what happened when they were kids, so he's never stopped trying to protect her from everything else. It doesn't matter that Vivian only uses him when hopping from one toxic relationship to another. Archer is always there, waiting to be noticed.

Then along comes Evan, the only person who's ever cared about Archer without a single string attached. The harder he falls for Evan, the more Archer sees Vivian for the manipulative hot-mess she really is.

But Viv has her hooks in deep, and when she finds out about the murders Archer's committed and his relationship with Evan, she threatens to turn him in if she doesn't get what she wants...

And what she wants is Evan's death, and for Archer to forfeit his last chance at redemption.

My Thoughts

This book is dark, and horribale, and completely wonderful. The characters are messed up and amazing. My entire focus is on the characters.

Archer has weird rules for himself. He wants to help, but his idea of helping is twisted and wrong. Yet, you cannot help but love him and root for him. You want him to do the right thing and to end up with the right person. It's hard to see archer as a killer when you are so attached to him. I wanted him to be happy.

Vivian makes me cringe. From the start of the book I couldn't stand her. I wanted her to see everything she could do differently. I wanted her to see that she could be a better person. I wanted her to appreciate Archer fully, or let him go.

This book brings out strong feelings. You know that feeling of utter love for a character? You know when a character makes you so happy that it makes you giggle? Archer and Evan gave me that feeling. Evan, oh, sweet Evan... The adorable swimmer who is so kind and cute.

Kelley did a fantastic job with this book. There were tricky and horrific subjects with lovable characters. I don't really want to tell you many details about this book because I want you to read it. I'm not going to spoil it for you, so just read the book!
AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-208138011748556990.post-4896393360571651252011-10-27T01:00:00.000-07:002011-10-27T01:00:04.600-07:00Interview: Rachel HawthorneToday I have the author RACHEL HAWTHORNE! <span style="color: black; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">Is it safe to

<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;">Actually,
I’m not much of an outdoors person. I wish I was. I have gone hiking in Wyoming

<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;">I
liked writing all the books, but I really enjoyed DARK OF THE MOON because
Brittany was dealing with disappointments and trying to define who she was. I
think that’s a universal challenge for all of us.
they weren’t readers, but decided to give one of my books a try and discovered

like about werewolves?
<span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;">I

before, his horrified mother tells him that he was found by the police. At

The list of my 5 favorite books about witches in no particular order...

The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward.

This is one of my two all time favorite series, and J.R. Ward is one of my four all time favorite authors. The sexy vampires and their battles, love, and life problems. They are those characters that fill you with happiness to read about. It's painful waiting a year for the next book.

Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead.

This is the other one of my two favorite series. The characters, that's what gets me. I fell completely in love with them, and now I want to cry every time I think about them. Dimitri is the best male character I have EVER read about. I have NEVER fallen for a character harder than I have for him. This series is full of incredible characters and shocking events that leave me frustrated and utterly hooked.

Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde.

Vivian is another one of my four favorite authors. This was actually the first vampire book I ever read, and I still reread it about once a year. I even read aloud to my younger sister. Wonderful vampire book for all ages.

Blue Bloods Series by Melissa de la Cruz.

The newest book called Lost in Time just came out, and I still need to get it! It's going to be incredible. The storyline keeps getting more epic with each new book. There are many characters all falling in love and being torn apart. It's a fantastic story.

Look for Me by Moonlight by Mary Downing Hahn.

This is another book I read when I was much younger. It has that feeling of the old vampires with power that are impossible to resist. The modern vampires don't have that feeling of doom and love anymore. I still love them, but this book has the old feelings to it.

The list of my 5 favorite books about werewolves in no particular order...

Wolves of Mercy Falls Series by Maggie Stiefvater.

These are the most beautiful books I own. I got Shiver the day it came out and I pretty much carried it with me all week. The story is so fantastic and overwhelmingly amazing.

Author: Jessica Spotswood
Release Date: 7 Feb. 2012
Publisher: Putnam's Sons for Young Readers
Pages: 326

Synopsis from Goodreads

Doesn't is sound like a fantastic book? And look at that cover! I am so excited for this book.

Shattered Mirror by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes has been an inspiration to me since I started reading. She was 14 when she wrote and published her first book. Isn't that amazing? The thing is, it's an excellent book! All of her books are. Her books are about vampire, shakeshifters, witches, all that good stuff. I'm choosing to highlight this witch book that has some incredible characters in it that I am completely attached to.

It's been a while since I read this book, but I remember really enjoying it. The tension in this book builds way, way up and becomes crazy toward the end. I remember how surprised I was with how the story turned out to be. Great read!

I have two giveaways going on right now! Check out the angels

and ghosts giveaway. I have bookmarks and postcards from Janni in the faeries and ghosts giveaway!

Before the interview, here's a bit about Janni.

Taken from LiveJournal

I live in the Arizona desert, where the plants know how to bite and the dandelions have thorns; in spite of these things--or maybe because of them--I'm feel like I live in one of the most stunning places on earth. I'm author of the post-apocalyptic young adult fantasies Bones of Faerie and Faerie Winter, as well as of Thief Eyes, a contemporary YA fantasy set in Iceland.

I've also published four books for younger readers, most recently Secret of the Three Treasures, as well as more than 30 short stories.

Interview!

What do you order at Starbucks?

Either a black iced
tea or--if I need a more serious caffeine hit--a caramel frappuccino.

Who is your favorite author?

Madeleine
L'Engle. I fell in love with A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Arm of the
Starfish, and A Wrinkle in Time as a teen, and those have remained
touchstone books for me ever since. I go back and reread them every few
years.

What is the most enjoyable part of the process of
writing and publishing a book?

I think it always comes back
to the writing process for me. I love immersing myself in the world of a story,
and then doing all I can to make that world vivid and real enough that others
can see that world, too.

Publishing means I get to share my
imaginary worlds with others. :-)

What is your favorite way
to describe your Faerie books?

As post-apocalyptic faerie
tales.

The books are set in the aftermath of a War between the
human and faerie realms, one that's destroyed much of our world and left behind
a land filled with deadly magic: stones that glow with deadly light, forests
that can swallow a person whole, and trees that seek human blood and
bone.

What attracts you to faeries?

I
think I'm drawn to writing about them because they scare me, especially in the
older stories. And because they look almost like us, and yet a million small
things remind us just how Other they are.

What is your
favorite symbol/image/thing associated with Halloween?

I
confess, it's the candy. Giving it out and eating the leftovers
both.

I also love the time of year Halloween is in, that
transition from our long Tucson summers to the cool evenings and clear air of
autumn.

What was your favorite Halloween and
why?

I don't know if it was my favorite exactly, but the
Halloween I always look back on and laugh about is the one where I decided I
wanted to dress up as an alien. My mom carefully sewed aluminum foil to a shirt
and pants for me, so that I could be all covered in a silvery
spacesuit.

Only … aluminum foil is not very sturdy. That costume
fell apart piece by piece as I walked through the neighborhood, leaving bits of
silver spacesuit behind me. :-)

Can you give me any insight
into your third Faerie book you just finished?

I've been
thinking of the third book all along as the book where Liza returns to Faerie.
The third book picks up some of the threads of the first book, and we see more
deeply the damage the War has done to both worlds, but it also looks further
back, to events that happened long before the War that are still affecting those
worlds.

It's also the last Faerie book, from Liza's point
of view at least. I feel like Liza and I have traveled such a long way
together--it's going to be strange to let her go!

Thanks so much for the interview and swag, Janni! I've enjoyed having you!

She is joining me during my ghost and faery week for her ghost books. I've loved her books for years and suggest you pick any of them up! My favorite is I Heart You, You Haunt Me, but they're all great! I've been reading her books for what must be years, and I'm thrilled to have this interview with her.

I have two giveaways going on right now! Check out the angels giveaway, and the faeries and ghosts giveaway.

Before I present the interview here's a bit about Lisa.

Taken from her website

Lisa Schroeder is a native Oregonian which means her childhood summers were
spent camping, fishing, reading books (of course!) and playing in the sun, when
it finally came out. These days, Lisa spends her summers, and every other part
of the year, sharing all of the wonderful things Oregon has to offer with her
husband and two sons. She is the author of numerous books for kids and teens,
including CHASING BROOKLYN (Simon Pulse, 2010) and IT'S RAINING CUPCAKES
(Aladdin, 2010).

Now for my interview with her:

What questions do you not like answering in an interview?

*checks your questions* :) I don't really like the - what are you working on
now - question. I have to be careful about what I say regarding that, because
I've found the closer I keep it to myself, the better. I don't write well the
more people who know what I'm writing. Feels like there are then expectation
around it or something, even if they aren't.

Where is your favorite place to write?

At the beach in a beautiful beach house with someone serving me my meals and
giving me a back massage every couple of hours. But, since that is almost
impossible to come by, my office. Once in a while, I go out, to a coffee place
or something, but I'm sort of a creature of habit, so my office works best.

Did you ever tear up while writing any of your books?

I have a couple of times, yeah, but not a lot. I don't even know if I could
tell you exactly when. I think at the end of The Day Before, I got teary because
I knew I'd reached that point where the day was over. I felt their pain at what
came next, for both of them.

What is the most touching thing a fan has ever said to you about your
books?

Wow, I've gotten so many amazing notes from readers. And I am thankful for
every single one. I think the one that stands out the most was the one I got
from a 12 year old girl who had lost her dad from a roadside bomb in Iraq. She
said my book I HEART YOU, YOU HAUNT ME really helped her to know her dad would
want her to try her best to be happy, and to keep on living. I've gotten quite a
few notes from readers who have lost someone close, and could really relate to
Ava and what she went through. Even people who haven't lost someone will tell me
the book helped them to appreciate their loved ones more. I never imagined how
much that book would touch people. Here it is, almost four years later, and I
still get notes about that book.

Did you ever feel a particular attachment to a specific character of
yours?

All of them? :) In an odd sort of way, they feel a little bit like family to
me. I mean, I write characters I love, because, I have to, or I won't do them
justice. Each one of them has a special place in my heart.

What do you like about ghosts?

Haha, this question makes me laugh. Because honestly? I don't really like
ghosts. When I started writing my ghostly stories, I was like, can I do this? I
don't like scary things! That's partly why Jackson was never really scary. I
wanted to write a different kind of ghost story. One where the main character
was happy to have him around rather than afraid. In CHASING BROOKLYN, Gabe had
to be scary. It was hard for me to write some of the creepy scenes. But I'm
proud of that book and how it turned out, so I'm glad I was able to write it
despite being a total wimp!

What is your favorite part of writing about ghosts?

I think trying to figure out how they might communicate to someone when they
can't communicate. I was worried people wouldn't buy into the things I came up
with, but it turns out, people are pretty accepting of weird things ghosts do!
Who knew?

What was your favorite costume you dressed up in for Halloween?

I was a fantastic nerd one year. I even won a prize! I had the pocket
protector, pants too short, the glasses, a sign that said, "Kick Me" on my back.
I'm not good at planning for Halloween. Most years, I go into my closet and
think, what can I throw together. Many times, it's bad. So it's always fun when
it actually turns out fairly well.

Thanks for having me here!!!

Lisa

Thanks so much Lisa! I'm so glad to have had you here celebrating Halloween!
Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine
-despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?

Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?

I have been wanting to choose Fracture for a while, but have had so many other amazing books to feature as well. And this is the closest I can find to a ghost book coming out that I've been waiting for. Really, where are all the ghost books? This one isn't even dead! Although, it sounds AMAZING, doesn't it? And I love the cover!AliyaPMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10638914885183577149noreply@blogger.com8
